Moving from a survival-driven "Save Red River" campaign to a long-term growth plan, the Red River Cultural District has published "Soundtrack to the Future," a roadmap to preserve and grow Austin's Music Mile through five strategic priorities for the next five-plus years. Visible facelifts come from invisible partnerships, safety initiatives and local collaboration.
Strengthening the Live Music Ecosystem – Supporting venues, artists, and industry professionals who make Red River Austin’s most vibrant hub for live music.
Preserving Cultural Identity and History – Honoring the legacy of the district while celebrating the stories, venues and creative communities that shaped it.
Economic Vitality and Sustainability – Ensuring the long-term success of local businesses through advocacy, resources, and strategic investment.
Public Space and District Experience – Enhancing the physical environment of Red River to improve safety, accessibility, and the overall visitor experience.
Partnerships and Advocacy – Building strong relationships with the city of Austin, community organizations and industry leaders to champion policies that support the district.
The Plan:
1. Produce a zine and podcast to document the district’s history and trajectory
2. Host ongoing ‘District Dialogues’ series that engages the community with local historians and industry experts.
3. Create a funding foundation with membership tiers that include sponsors, grants and events
4. Teamwork between Red River Institutions and adjacent projects
